The Nerve Injury Clinic was set up in 2013 by Claire Downs as a specialist centre for the treatment of people with peripheral nerve injuries and neurological problems. Andy Budgen and Jo Jackson worked with Claire offering an orthotics service and administration support respectively.

Katy Herbert and Kellie Pike joined her in 2021 and 2022 to offer additional physiotherapy support and a wider range of physiotherapy skills. Claire Pickin and Yvette Sanderson started a bespoke, one to one yoga service for patients in 2021.

The Nerve Injury Clinic now offers a complete, “one stop physiotherapy shop” for patients with neurological disorders and if we can’t sort it out, we will get someone in who can!

We aim to treat patients from diagnosis right through their recovery, with specialist neurological and musculo-skeletal physiotherapy, acupuncture, orthotics provision, rehabilitation through exercise and yoga.

The combination of therapy and self-management guarantees maximum recovery. The clinic offers long term support for individuals with long term conditions to ensure maximum function and minimum pain.

Prof Lennard Funk

“I have worked with Claire since 2005, sending her many of my more complex shoulder patients.

Her experience and specialised training in nerve and muscle disorders has put her in the forefront of managing complex nerve problems of the shoulder and arm. In addition to this, she has also treated many of my other patients and athletes with all types of shoulder problems.

The expertise and experience she brings has been a massive boost for these patients. Claire has worked incredibly hard for her patients and the feedback I get from them is fantastic.

She keeps me updated on patients and contacts me immediately when she has any concerns. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Claire and cannot recommend her highly enough for shoulder and upper limb rehabilitation.”
