FAQs

We are always here to reassure you of anything you’re uncertain about, so if you can’t find an answer to a query you have below please don’t hesitate to contact us

What should I wear to my consultation?

You might want to bring a pair of shorts with you (we do keep spare shorts in the clinic) and/or or a vest-type top. However, as long as you wear comfortable clothing we can usually work around your clothing.

Should I bring anything with me to my consultation?

It would be useful for you to bring the following to your first consultation:

  • A referral letter from your GP or consultant if you have one.

  • Your full insurance details and claim number, if you wish us to claim our fees directly from your private health insurers and you have notified them of your claim.

  • Any x-rays or scan results that you may have relating to your injury or condition.

I get free physiotherapy on the NHS, why might I opt for private treatment?

There are many reasons for choosing to see a private physiotherapist such as:

Being able to see someone more quickly if you are in pain or need to know what to do to optimise your recovery and not aggravate any symptoms that you are having.

Arranging an appointment time to suit you to fit in with your work or other commitments. We offer early morning, evening and weekend appointment times.

Receiving a more hands-on approach to your treatment including treatments such as manual therapy and soft tissue release treatments which are often not available on the NHS due to time constraints.

Being able to ensure you see the same physiotherapist every visit ensures continuity of care and excellent hands-on treatment from a highly experienced practitioner. Claire has over 20 years experience in physiotherapy, and ensures her team are also highly experienced.

Can I bring someone with me?

In normal circumstances you are very welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment and they can sit in on the consultation and treatment with you if you wish. Currently we are encouraging patients to visit alone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is our cancellation policy?

Cancellation Policy - we require 48 hours notice (2 working days) for cancellation to avoid charges. If an appointment is cancelled less than 48 hrs beforehand, a cancellation charge of £50 will be applied.

How many treatments will there be?

This will often depend upon:

  • How long you have had the problem

  • The severity of your symptoms and condition

  • What you want to be able to do

Nerve and neurological problems can be slow to improve due to the nature of the damage. We will be able to give you more information about how often you will require treatment and for how long at your first appointment. Some patients live a long way from the clinic and attend infrequently for a review appointment, reassessment and advice/treatment progression. This approach can work well if they can diligently carry out a home program and sometimes see a local physiotherapist too.

I’ve got an injury, how soon should I come and see you for assessment and treatment?

This is up to you, but generally we would try and see you as soon as possible after your injury to advise you and start treatment. If you have recently had surgery, your Consultant should advise you on when is best to start your physiotherapy.

If you are still unsure please give us a call and we can advise you.

Can I claim the cost of my physiotherapy on my Private Medical Insurance?

The Nerve Injury Clinic is recognised by the major private health insurance companies for physiotherapy treatment. Usually, a patient has to be referred by their GP, specialist or in the event an insurance claim, case handler, in order to claim the cost of their physiotherapy treatment through their private medical insurance.

We strongly recommend that patients contact their insurance company before commencing treatment to check and confirm individual policy conditions relating to a claim.

Things you may wish to check include:

  • Is there an excess on the policy? i.e. the policy holder has to pay for part of the treatment themselves.

  • How much insurance cover is available? e.g. set number of treatments or monetary limit.

  • Is the financial assistance provided for physiotherapy treatment alone or is it part of an overall sum for specialist services? This is important if a Consultant is involved or if further investigations are being considered.

  • Is there a time limit for the treatment to take place?

If your insurance company does not cover your treatment charges in full, any outstanding amount will be due from you as our patient.
