  • Claire Downs

    Claire is a chartered physiotherapist specialising in the assessment and treatment of peripheral nerve injuries. She graduated in 1993 from King’s College London.

    She has over 25 years’ experience in treating neurological patients and 20 years treating peripheral nerve injuries. She runs The Nerve Injury Clinic, which provides expert physiotherapy care for patients with any type of nerve injury.

    Claire regularly lectures to physiotherapists, health care professionals, patient groups and case managers/solicitors upon nerve injuries. She acts as an expert witness for the courts, advising upon legal cases involving peripheral nerve injuries.

    Claire qualified as a physiotherapist in 1993, from King's College, London with BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy. She then worked at three regional neuroscience units in London, including The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. She moved to Manchester and worked at The Lindens Clinic with Diana Farragher treating facial palsy patients and Neurological Physiotherapy in Cheadle. She set up The Nerve Injury Clinic in 2013.

  • Katy Herbert

    Katy joined The Nerve Injury Clinic in August 2021. Katy qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2016 with first class honors. Prior to this she graduated from an Anatomical Sciences, Bsc. Katy is also a qualified Acupuncturist and Sports Massage Therapist.

    Katy has worked in both the NHS and private healthcare. In her early career she gained a wide range of skills in acute medical/respiratory care, intensive care, cardiac and colorectal surgery, amputees, musculoskeletal and posture-related conditions.

    Katy has extensive experience treating stroke, traumatic and acquired brain injuries, MS Parkinson’s and spinal cord injury. Katy has specialist knowledge and experience of a variety of assistive technologies and postural/mobility equipment including specialist seating, wheelchairs and sleep systems. Katy has a passion for treating neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, especially where they overlap. She is happy to see patients in their own homes if attending the clinic is difficult. Katy is a flexible, accomplished and friendly therapist. Outside of physiotherapy she is a passionate cook, enjoys camping and festival going.

  • Kellie Pike

    Kellie qualified as a physiotherapist from University of East London in 1997. Initially, she worked in the NHS in London building up her skills in a variety of areas. She commenced specialising in neurological physiotherapy in 2003 working at Manchester Royal Infirmary, and remained there for 12 years.

    In 2014, she left the NHS to work as a self-employed neurological physiotherapist based in the community and out-patient clinics.

    She is Bobath trained but uses a variety of treatment techniques and methods to suit each individual patient. She is particularly interested in a holistic approach to patient care and how to guide patients to self-manage their own condition long term.

    She is very experienced in treating all different types of neurological conditions, although her specialist interest lies in treating patients following Stroke. She has taught other health care professionals about many aspects of stroke care and physiotherapy intervention.

  • Claire Pickin

    Claire has been a Hatha Yoga teacher since 2007, greatly influenced by her mother who is also a yoga teacher with 40 years teaching experience.

    She is qualified as an Advanced Yoga Teacher with The British School of Yoga and has completed many other courses to deepen her understanding of the practice. She is also a member of the Independent Yoga Network

    Her method is very much person-centred and works to bring the whole system into balance through gentle breathwork and slow mindful movements. She has completed many courses focusing on how the postures of yoga influence the nervous system and how we can use the practice for chronic pain management and learn to move in a healing and effective way.

    Stress and anxiety management is also part of what Claire teaches both in group classes and in one-to-one sessions.

    Over the past 15 years Claire has taught yoga to toddlers, school children, seniors, and everyone in between. Her style adapts and adjusts movements and postures for any level. She has been teaching a chair yoga class for 10 years, so is experienced in providing alternative movements and postures to suit most abilities.

  • Joanne Jackson

    Joanne joined The Nerve Injury Clinic early 2017, bringing her Practice Manager experience with her from another physiotherapy clinic.

    As our Senior Administrator and Credit Control she oversees administration duties and Accounts services.

    Joanne is the person to go to if you have any queries over your private health insurance or if you require receipts for your physiotherapy sessions.

    She is a valuable member of our team who keeps the accounts straight for us.

  • Andy Budgen

    Andy qualified in 1997 from Salford University with a BSc Hons in Prosthetics and Orthotics and chose to specialise in orthotics. He has worked in NHS orthotics clinics for 25 years in the NorthWest.

    He runs clinics for diabetics, paediatrics, neurology and musculoskeletal services. His particular interests are in gait analysis and complex presentations.
